Broad-band photometric evolution of star clusters

چکیده

I briefly introduce a database of models that describe the evolution of star clusters in several broad-band photometric systems. Models are based on the latest Padova stellar evolutionary tracks – now including the α-enhanced case and improved AGB models – and a revised library of synthetic spectra from model atmospheres. As of today, we have revised isochrones in Johnson-Cousins-Glass, HST/WFPC2, HST/NICMOS, Thuan-Gunn, and Washington systems. Several other filter sets are included in a preliminary way, like those used by the EIS and SDSS projects. The database contains also integrated magnitudes of single-burst stellar populations and Monte-Carlo simulations that show the stochastic dispersion of the colours as a function of cluster mass, age, and metallicity. The models are useful for several kinds of studies, including estimates of masses and ages of extragalactic star clusters observed by means of broad-band photometry.

A Bayesian Classifier for Photometric Redshifts: Identification of high redshift clusters

Photometric redshift classifiers provide a means of estimating galaxy redshifts from observations using a small number of broad-band filters. However, the accuracy with which redshifts can be determined is sensitive to the star formation history of the galaxy, for example the effects of age, metallicity and on-going star formation. We present a photometric classifier that explicitly takes into ...

Scaling relations in dynamical evolution of star clusters

We have carried out a series of small scale collisional N-body calculations of single-mass star clusters to investigate the dependence of the lifetime of star clusters on their initial parameters. Our models move through an external galaxy potential with a logarithmic density profile and they are limited by a cut-off radius. In order to find scaling relations between the lifetime of star cluste...

Spectral and photometric evolution of young stellar populations: The impact of gaseous emission at various metallicities

We include gaseous continuum and line emission into our  models for the spectral and photometric evolution of Simple Stellar Populations (SSPs) for various metallicities in the range 0.02 ≤ Z/Z ≤ 2.5. This allows to extend them to significantly younger ages than before. They now cover the age range from 4 Myr all through 14 Gyr. We point out the very important contributions of gaseous emis...

v 2 2 S ep 2 00 3 At the Vigintennial of the Butcher – Oemler Effect

In their study of the evolution of galaxies within clusters, Butcher and Oemler discovered evidence for a strong evolution in star-formation rate with redshift. Later studies confirmed this conclusion and uncovered several aspects of the effect: photometric, spectroscopic, and morphological. This article reviews a broad sample of these works and discusses selection effects, biases, and driving ...

The photometric evolution of star clusters and the preferential loss of low - mass bodies - with an application to globular clusters ⋆

The photometric evolution of star clusters and the preferential loss of low-mass bodies-with an application to globular clusters ⋆ ABSTRACT Context. To obtain an accurate description of broad-band photometric star cluster evolution, certain effects should be accounted for. Energy equipartition leads to mass segregation and the preferential loss of low-mass stars, while stellar remnants severely...
